Greetings! Welcome to Randy Stelter’s school web page. I am glad you made it and hope that you will find the resources available on my page helpful for students and parents. I am the Director of Athletics for 21 high school programs and 10 middle school programs. I over-see 70 coaching positions and 54 levels of competition at the high school and middle school combined. I also teach the following books during our resource periods: “The Go-Giver” by Bob Burg and John David Mann and “Adversaries into Allies” by Bob Burg to our seniors and juniors respectfully. I also teach “The Young Traveler’s Gift” by Andy Andrews to our freshmen during resource period. I have been in education for 36 years as an English and Theology teacher, coach, and athletic administrator.
I am a University of St. Francis (Illinois) graduate with degrees in English and Athletic Administration. I also have 24 graduate hours in high school counseling from Governors State University and 60 hours in Retreats and Pastoral Ministry from the Retreats International program at the University of Notre Dame.
I have served as Director of Athletics at Union Township Schools since 1998. I have also taught English and coached boys’ basketball. Prior to coming to Wheeler High School, I taught English and Theology and coached football, basketball, baseball, and girls softball at Providence Catholic High School from 1979-1989. I also served as retreat director and senior counselor. Prior to taking my current position, I taught and coached at Joliet West High School and Merrillville High School from 1989-1998. I coached football and softball for 20 years and boys’ basketball for 28 years. I had the pleasure of playing college baseball and basketball for legendary Hall of Fame coaches Gordie Gillespie and Pat Sullivan. I am the proud father of 5 children. Sons Steve and Mike have served in the US Marine Corps. Daughter Jennifer is a Ball State University graduate. Daughters Brittany and Brooke are UTSC and Indiana University graduates. My wife, Maureen, works for Coldwell Banker.
