I am a graduate of Valparaiso University. My Bachelor of Music Education degree holds certification in choral, instrumental and general music K-12. I have taken many graduate courses in music and education through Vandercook College of Music. I am a member of the National Association for Music Education, Indiana Music Educators’ Association, American Choral Director’s Association and the National Education Association with corresponding state affiliations. I have been involved with choir as a member or director since I was in 3rd grade. I myself enjoy music and singing and hope to pass that love on to my students.

I have had the pleasure to be in the employ of Union Township School Corporation since 1989. During that time I have taught elementary and middle school general music and middle and high school choirs. I enjoy the students and love working with them. One of the most memorable moments of my career in Union Township was the honor of performing at Orchestra hall in Chicago and singing with the Chicago Children’s Choir in 2001.

Welcome to Ms. Hardesty’s choir webpage!!

I am honored to teach choir to both Union Township Middle School students and Wheeler High School students. All in all I teach about 160 students. I hope the information included in this webpage is helpful. Eventually I would like to include rehearsal recordings and other links to help with the success of my students and the choir program.

In my time away from school I enjoy being outdoors: hiking, camping and just being outside. I am an avid reader and like to spend time reading (outside of course). I am originally from Wisconsin so I spend time visiting my parents, my sister and her family. I have two grown children, married and living in Valparaiso.

I teach UTMS choirs 6, 7, and 8th grade choirs, Bravo show choir, WHS Concert Choir, Advanced Chorus, and ENCORE show choir. I co-coach the WHS Fine Arts Academic team and I am one of the staff members for the WHS Natural Helpers program. Union Township is a wonderful place to be!!

Our choral department at UTMS/WHS is active in many ways. We put on the annual Madrigal Dinner (in December), participate in the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) district and state vocal solo/ensemble contests each year, and perform in a variety of venues. A wide variety of music is performed by all the choirs. Sacred, secular, contemporary, and ethnic pieces are just part of the choices.

Every year middle school students are able to perform at the Music in the Parks Festival which includes a trip to Six Flags Great America. All high school choir members are invited to participate and perform at Disneyworld in Orlando, Florida. This trip is offered every 4 years.
